Lisa Marie Young, MA, RCC, RYT

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#21260) and hold a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology. My professional background includes over 26 years of combined work experience in the mental health and human services field. I am trained to administer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), an evidence-based trauma treatment approach that helps clients heal from past traumatic events and negative lived experiences. I am also registered as a healthcare provider with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), The First Responders Health BC Association, Crime Victims Assistance Program, Work BC and ICBC.

I offer support to adults experiencing grief, loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, life transitions, perinatal and postnatal wellness,  Adult ADHD, chronic pain, body image concerns or, simply, searching for more meaning and joy in their lives. Mental health and well-being have always been a great passion of mine. I am inspired by listening to client stories and honoured to have the opportunity to support individuals and couples in their mental health and wellness planning.

I focus on my client’s strengths and bring a person-centred, culturally respectful approach to the therapeutic relationship. My goal is to help clients identify hidden strengths, personal abilities and heal from painful past trauma while helping foster a sense of purpose in their lives. I am grateful for this opportunity and strive to offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space to begin this meaningful journey - to increased mental, physical and psychological wellness.

As a registered Yoga Teacher (200 hr) and active member of Yoga Alliance, my therapeutic approach includes responding to and understanding somatic symptoms. Through mindfulness comes greater awareness, and with that, a sense of hope. I provide an opportunity both 1:1 and in group settings for emotional processing while gaining greater self-awareness and physical relief from symptoms stemming from psychological stress, pain and/or suffering. I offer a holistic view, a focus on mind-body connections.and, support lifelong health and well-being.

My family and I relocated to the Salmon Arm area in 2012 and I immediately fell in love with life here in the Shuswap! I am grateful everyday for the amazing, picturesque views, endless hiking/biking trails and recreation opportunities. I aim to practice daily self-care in the form of mindfulness, movement and immersive nature therapy.
