Critical incidents can include a sudden and unexpected incident in the workplace, a "tough call,"witnessing the serious injury of a co-worker, responding to a fatal incident scene, a life-threatening experience, serious injury to a team member, discovery of a deceased person, natural or human-made disaster, any incident involving children, or being robbed at gunpoint. Grief is a reaction to any form of loss, and each person has their own unique grief experience. It can be lonely, confusing, and bring up many emotions that are hard to sort through. Grief connects us together in our humanity. yet the reality is that we often struggle to identify our emotions in grief. There are so many feelings and thoughts that it is surprisingly tough to know what we are feeling at times. There is no "right" way to cope, and everything we feel in grief is normal. Grief feels like so many things, and how we feel can change moment by moment, day by day. It takes strength to navigate your way through grief, and you don't have to grieve on your own.
